Description: In this presentation, I argue that the current global rise of authoritarianism is related both to capitalism’s crisis of profitability and the ways in which capitalism affects the way we think. I will draw on new and old works such as Michael Roberts’ The Long Depression (2016), Ryan Avent’s The Wealth of Humans (2016), Karl Marx’s Capital, and the Frankfurt School’s critique of “instrumental rationality.”
